PDA is assisting with a lightning-fast tenant improvement project. A vibrant yet maturing tech start-up is moving to a new space adjacent to UCLA. They’re growing, so it’s 3x the size of their current HQ. @WhitakerConstruction started demo this AM with a full crew of eager and skilled workers. Has removing vinyl plank flooring ever looked so good?!? Please forgive the hideous water bottle! PDA uses only refillable containers. Should we photoshop it out? Viewer poll, please! 🙂

PDA returned to the site of his graduate education in architecture - the University of Virginia in Charlottesville - on the occasion of the School of Architecture’s 100th anniversary. The remarkable original central campus (called the “Academical Village” by its designer/founder, Thomas Jefferson) is considered one of the great masterpieces of American building design. “The Rotunda” (shown here) was the library, a fitting central focus for an expansive lawn flanked by student and faculty housing on both sides. This complex was finished around 1813.
We were impressed to see a great circular monument under construction outside - a long overdue “Memorial to Enslaved Laborers”; the campus was built by slaves. How important to come to grips with these terrible realities!
