Newport Beach Residence

Newport Beach, CA (SDA)

Breathtaking new build

Situated on a narrow lot, this ground-up new residence is conceived as a bar along the north edge of the site with sunny open courtyard spaces along the south side.

Warm, natural materials

The building volumes contain major living spaces and children’s bedrooms on the first floor, with a master suite and roof decks occupying a second story. A guest suite sits above a tucked-away garage. Major exterior materials featured are steel-troweled stucco and stained cedar plank siding.

Open living space with plenty of natural light

A seabreeze – the best air conditioning

At the courtyards and roof decks, extensive use of glass and sliding doors create the feeling of openness and encourage outdoor living in intimate garden “rooms”. The house is suffused with daylight, and strategic positioning of windows in the stair hall achieves a natural chimney effect, permitting coastal breezes to take the place of air conditioning on even the warmest days.
